4-vehicle Baltimore car accident leaves 1 dead, several injured

A multiple-vehicle collision on Feb. 23 killed one male victim and left several more people injured on the west side of Baltimore. The car accident, which involved four vehicles, occurred at about 11:30 a.m., according to official reports. One 26-year-old man died in the crash, and a female passenger suffered critical injuries. A toddler also suffered potential brain injury after head trauma associated with the wreck.

Bystanders were shocked at the extent of the crash, which required several hours to clear. The speed limit on that road is 35 mph, far lower than one would expect to cause such a serious collision. Officers say an investigation is ongoing in the matter, though news reports do not indicate that charges have been filed.

Authorities say that the collision occurred when an Acura ran a red light at the intersection of North Fulton Avenue and Presstman Street. That vehicle struck a Mercury Grand Marquis. That vehicle was hit with such extreme force that it rolled over and struck two other vehicles. Witnesses surmised that the driver of the Acura was traveling at an excessive rate of speed. Two occupants of that vehicle suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

In all, 12 people were involved in the wreck. In addition to the injuries previously listed, a 16-year-old occupant was treated for minor injuries. That teen was riding in a Dodge Durango that was struck by the car that flipped. A man in the fourth car also suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Victims who have suffered personal injury because of a negligent driver may be entitled to financial compensation for their medical expenses. Further, a negligent driver may be required to pay for other civil claims such as pain and suffering, emotional distress and a variety of others. A Maryland attorney may be able to provide additional information for victims who need help after a car accident.
