Teen killed in fatal car accident after visit to state park

A woman who died in a collision on June 8 in Pylesville, Maryland, has been identified as an 18-year-old Delaware resident. That young woman died in a collision when the pickup truck in which she was riding struck a utility pole. She was ejected from the vehicle during the car accident. An investigation is still ongoing in the matter.

Officers say that the 23-year-old driver of the truck, also from Delaware, was not injured in the crash, nor were two other 18-year-old passengers. Authorities say they believe that both alcohol and speeding were factors in the collision. Investigators have not said how fast the truck was traveling when it hit the utility pole. They have said, however, that the driver of the vehicle may be facing charges in connection with the fatal car accident.

The group was visiting Maryland from Delaware to see Rocks State Park, according to news reports. The four young people were visiting Kilgore Falls, and it is possible that they were returning home when the collision occurred. Authorities have not said whether they believe that the driver of the vehicle had been drinking at home or at an establishment when he got behind the wheel.

The driver in this case -- and others like it -- could be subject to civil complaints from the victim's family members. Further, any alcohol-serving establishment that allowed the driver to become intoxicated and get behind the wheel could also be held financially accountable for the victim's death. No one should have to experience the loss of a loved one because of a negligent drunk driver. The driver and other parties should be held financially responsible for their negligent actions.
